About HomeShare Oregon

Our Story

Founded in 2021, HomeShare Oregon is working hard to change the cultural norm around homesharing.

We see homesharing as an immediate solution to our affordable housing crisis. Connecting home providers who have spare space to share with renters seeking out affordable housing is a common sense and immediately available response to prevent housing instability.

As a nonprofit, HomeShare Oregon has three priority goals:

1. To culturally normalize homesharing.

Homesharing is a common sense solution to one of our society’s greatest challenges. Our goal is to position homesharing as a practical solution to Oregon’s affordable housing crisis, while working to remove any stigma associated with it.

2. To increase direct services to seniors.

Our second goal is to expand direct services for seniors, the fastest-growing homeless population in the state, particularly among women and BIPOC communities who face the highest risk of displacement. Homesharing offers seniors not only financial stability but also companionship, a greater sense of security, and the ability to age in place with dignity.

3. To incentivize homesharing 

We want more people to homeshare and want to work with other partners and agencies to provide incentives to someone opening their home to homesharing.

HomeShare Oregon supports home providers and renters throughout the homesharing process. We also advocate for homesharing as a necessary and viable part of the solution to Oregon’s affordable housing crisis and as a potential tax incentive for home providers. 

By providing education, tools, resources, and support to interested homesharers, we effectively create another affordable housing option.
